Travel doesn’t make the heart wander

I started travelling at the age of 18, yearning to see what the other places in the world had to offer. At the peak of my rebellious phase, all I wanted to do was to get out of Singapore. I repeatedly whined about the imperfections of this country but travelling made me realise that I do not want to be anywhere else but here, in my homeland.

It has taken me a while to appreciate the complexity of Singapore’s planning – from the transport system, to the road networks, and the top-notch education system. Many complain about the rising cost of living in Singapore but are blinded by the plethora of benefits and opportunities given to them.

Many forget the miraculous feat that Singapore has achieved in its journey from a muddy swamp land to an Asian Tiger.

Despite the desire to trot around the globe and experience life in a different place, ultimately, every trip ends with, "it feels so good to be home!"

Mirah is finishing her studies at the National University of Singapore, after which she hopes to work in an industry which will enable her to travel, so as to appreciate the comforts of home.
