What was even better news was the strong performance not just by us, but our neighbours as well – the second and third slots were taken by Hong Kong and Bangkok respectively.
The fact that Asian cities made such a strong showing speaks well for the fact that our region is truly on the rise not just as tourism destinations, but a growing force in the global economy. In 2009, more than ever, intra-regional trade and travel will be the drivers that hasten our recovery.
So if there's a message for 2009, it would be to be a good neighbour.
