Indeed, the exceptional pace of progress over the last few decades has led many of us to forget that Singapore was a growing city long before obtaining independence in 1965.
An excellent example is the World Orchid Conference (WOC). In 1963, Singapore actually hosted the 4th WOC and come November this year, we will welcome back the 20th edition of this prestigious event. It is a rarity for most countries, much less one as ‘old’ as we are.
Even as we kept pace with advances and progress, and celebrate present achievements, we must not forget our past. Great then that as the custodians of Singapore’s history, the National Heritage Board is stepping up its efforts to fortify the museum and heritage industry.
Amidst all the celebrations this month, it is timely and exciting to know that for this little Lion City, history is certainly in the making.
Sincerely,
