TravelRave 2011: Asia’s only Mega Travel and Tourism Festival returns bigger and better

TravelRave returns to Singapore this month with new partners including leading organisations like the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) and the Questex Media Group. Confident of the strategic role that TravelRave plays in the Asian tourism industry, industry partners and event organizers worldwide are launching inaugural travel business events and new original content, further catalysing opportunities for tourism in Asia.

As Asia’s only Mega Travel and Tourism Festival, TravelRave is the platform that brings together the entire spectrum of players and business events in the travel and tourism value chain, from travel trade and investment, to leadership forums and awards. Conceived by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB), the inaugural TravelRave in 2010 was a success, with over 8,000 delegates and 14 per cent increase in attendance across all co-located events. Leveraging the success of last year’s inaugural festival and the continued strong growth of Asia’s leisure and business travel industry, the second instalment of TravelRave will take place from 17 to 23 October 2011.

“TravelRave plays an important role as a comprehensive platform for the industry to exchange knowledge, build alliances and realise opportunities,” says Ms Aw Kah Peng, STB’s Chief Executive. “We are proud to announce our new partnerships with UNWTO, WTTC and Questex for TravelRave 2011. Together with our existing anchor events, these new partnerships will present fresh insight on the Asian travel and tourism industry, promising an even more enriching edition this year.”

Gathering of prominent thought-leaders

TravelRave 2011 will bring together thought-leaders to collaborate and discuss the challenges and opportunities to fully realize the potential of Asia’s travel and tourism industry.

WTTC is partnering Singapore on groundbreaking research to quantify the impact of business travel on national economies. The insights for Southeast Asia will be shared for the first time at TravelRave, together with more in-depth findings on Asia Pacific. David Scowsill, President and CEO of WTTC adds, “Business Travel is a vital driver of the global economy. This research will demonstrate how important the sector is to the economies of Southeast Asia. The support of STB has been fundamental to getting this research off the ground.”

The UNWTO and Singapore are also organising a half-day meeting that will bring together worldwide decision makers from the various quadrants of the tourism sector, and economic and political leaders to discuss global challenges and outreach outside the tourism sector.  “UNWTO is committed to advance the efforts to bring the sector together in speaking with one voice and this meeting, the first in Asia, will be an important step to achieve this objective” says UNWTO General-Secretary, Mr Taleb Rifai.

Existing anchor events will also add new components that cater to the dynamic needs of the Asia travel industry. CNBC will present its inaugural Travel Business Leader Award Asia Pacific at the Asia Travel Leaders Summit.

Generating more business opportunities

In addition, new partners and events will create greater opportunities for investment in new products, services and capabilities.

The new partners include the Questex Media Group, who will launch the Asia Pacific Hotel and Tourism Investment Conference 2011, a strategic half-day meeting that will lead up to the full-fledged International Hotel and Tourism Investment Forum (Asia Pacific) in 2012. The inaugural event will be the only one in the region to showcase distinctive opportunities for the Asia hotel travel and tourism investment sector.

Travel+Leisure , in partnership with STB, will present original research on luxury travel, while ITB Asia will launch new dedicated forums including an Associations Conference and a one-day travel agent conference with TTG Asia.

Beyond providing meaningful content, the vibrant line-up of business events of TravelRave 2011 will also continue to create more compelling reasons for players in the Asia travel and tourism industry to participate. Delegates can look forward to enhanced networking and business opportunities with new cross-event networking platforms. All event organisers within TravelRave will also benefit from STB’s significant investment in a coordinated marketing and media campaign.

With Singapore’s prime location at the crossroads of Asia and its expanding ecosystem comprising of leading travel and tourism organisations, the country is well-positioned to spearhead TravelRave. Singapore provides the ideal setting for industry players to congregate for meaningful knowledge exchange, networking and collaboration. Other notable travel business events held in Singapore this year include Low Cost Airlines World Asia Pacific (January 2011), IAAPA Asian Attractions Expo (June 2011), Cruise Shipping Asia (November 2011) and SuperEvents Asia (November 2011).
