JJ Lin will rock Shanghai on 14 October
Tourism ambassador JJ Lin to perform in Singapore Season

The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) is playing its part in the Singapore Season, a month-long event held in Beijing and Shanghai from 12 October to 10 November.

This year's Singapore Season in China is integrated with two of China's international arts events - The Beijing Music Festival and the China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

"Through the Singapore Season in China 2007, we hope to present a new face of Singapore - a city with cultural diversity and vibrancy, as well as artistic excellence and distinctiveness - to the people in China. Singapore is more than a travel destination and a value added business partner for China. It is a global city of opportunities and an attractive place to live, work and play," said Dr Tan Chin Nam, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts and the Chairman of the Singapore Season Steering Committee.

A series of events ranging from high fashion and a pop concert featuring more than 300 performers and creative talents will be showcased, as well as 27 short films.

Headlining the pop concert in Shanghai will be Singapore's Tourism Ambassador JJ Lin, one of Singapore's hottest pop singers. The concert will be held at the Shanghai Hongkou Football Stadium. JJ has been the STB's brand ambassador since 2006. Making a guest appearance at the concert is A-Do, the popular singer who was also the STB's brand ambassador (2004-2005).

Mr Edmund Chua, Regional Director, Greater China, Singapore Tourism Board, said: "At Singapore Season in China, the Singapore Tourism Board would like to share what makes Singapore unique, as seen through the eyes of our residents and visitors."

The STB is also staging "SingArt - A Brush with Lions", an exhibition of lion-sculpture artworks by high-profile local and international personalities. (The lion was selected as a symbol for this special exhibition as a reflection of the country's name and history - Singapura or "Lion City".)

Around 30 life-sized fibreglass lions will be displayed with their artist's profile featured in both Chinese and English. Three new lions will be unveiled during the Season. They are designed by JJ Lin, A-Do and another Singapore singer, Sun Ho, who will perform at the Singapore Gala dinners in both Beijing and Shanghai.

Also on is The Unique2Me Photo Exhibition which captures unique personal experiences in Singapore by visitors and Singaporeans through photographs. A total of 96 photographs will be displayed.

These have been short-listed from over 4,000 entries received from the Unique2Me Photo Competition held in conjunction with National Geographic Channel Asia in 2005-2006.

A wide variety of themes and subjects were explored by the participants, including dragon boat races, reservoirs, transportation system, Singapore's spectacular skyline and juxtapositions of modern and historical architecture.

"The SingArt and Unique2Me exhibitions display our arts and multi-cultural heritage which is inspiring for creative expression. Through the works displayed, we hope our friends in China will see Singapore as a vibrant global city that offers opportunities for international and local talent to explore and express their creative ideas," said Mr Chua.

Both exhibitions will be held 10 to 14 October 2007 in Xi Zhi Men Mall in Beijing and 20 to 28 October 2007 in Raffles City Shanghai in Shanghai.
