December 2005

Business Events
Singapore is a premier destination for business events and December will see several conferences covering topics like Computational Intelligence, Robotics & Autonomous Systems, Biomedical Engineering, Electronics Packaging Technology, and Chemicals.

7th Electronics Packaging Technology Conference
The 7th Electronics Packaging Technology Conference (EPTC 2005) is an international event featuring technical sessions, short courses and an exhibition. Held between 7 – 9 December at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, it is a major forum for the exchange of knowledge and provides opportunities to network and meet leading experts in the field.

The conference aims to cover technological developments in all areas of electronic packaging from design to manufacturing and operation. Since its inauguration in 1997, EPTC has developed into a highly reputed electronics packaging conference in Asia and is well attended by experts in packaging technology from all over the world.

12th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering
The 12th International Conference on Biomedical Engineering (12th ICBME) will be held at the Mandarin Hotel from 7 – 10 December.  This is part of a series of biennial international conferences in biomedical engineering held in Singapore.

This conference, jointly organised by the Faculties of Engineering and Medicine of the National University of Singapore and the Biomedical Engineering Society (Singapore), is part of the NUS Centennial celebrations. The last conference attracted over 700 participants from 25 countries. This year’s conference is expected to draw participants such as doctors, bioscientists and bioengineers as well as other professionals from all over the world. The 12th ICBME will be an excellent platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge in biomedical engineering.

Singapore International Chemical Conference
The Singapore International Chemical Conference is a biennial conference dedicated to promoting advances in chemistry. This conference is the fourth in the series, and is held in Singapore for the third time. Both the previous two conferences have been highly successful, attracting more than 500 participants.  This year, it will be held from 8 – 10 December at the Shangri-La Hotel.

The conference aims to raise the profile of chemical science in Singapore. It will be a platform for an exchange of global expertise and ideas, as participants will be discussing the significant scientific developments in molecular synthesis and catalysis, and new ideas and trends as the industry moves into the twenty-first century.

3rd International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Robotics & Autonomous Systems
The 3rd International Conference on Computational Intelligence, Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CIRAS 2005) will be held at the Orchard Hotel from 14 – 16 December.  This year’s conference will focus on research directions in the fields of Computational Intelligence, Robotics and Autonomous Systems. CIRAS was launched in 2001 as a result of the success of the first International Symposium on Autonomous Robots and Agents.

CIRAS is intended to provide a common platform for knowledge dissemination among researchers working in Computational Intelligence, Robotics, Autonomous Systems and related areas. It is expected to draw 300 participants this year.
