Leisure Events
Join in the merriment at Christmas in the Tropics this November, where Orchard Road and Marina Bay come alive with a myriad of festive activities and spectacular light-ups. Fanatics of digital gaming and sci-fi epic Star Wars will also be thrilled by the hosting of the World Cyber Games 2005 Grand Final and staging of The Art of Star Wars Exhibition in Singapore. Meanwhile, don’t miss out the Hari Raya and Deepavali Light-Ups happening at the various ethnic zones too!

Hari Raya Celebrations 2005
Hari Raya Puasa is a significant celebration for the Muslim community in Singapore. This day marks the end of Ramadan, the Muslim month of fasting. Catch the Hari Raya Celebrations which will be happening until 13 November at two festive hubs - Geylang Serai and Kampong Gelam. You will be fascinated by the brilliantly decorated arches and lively night bazaar that characterise this annual festival light-up!

 


Deepavali Festival
From now till 6 November, the Deepavali Light-Up continues to draw the crowd at Little India, as the local Indian community celebrates Deepavali - the Festival of Lights. From 11am to 11pm daily, join in the festive shopping along Campbell Lane for all things ethnic, from brightly-coloured sarees, shining jewellery, aromatic spices, sweet yoghurt and scented jasmine garlands.

 


 

 

Christmas in the Tropics 
Celebrating Christmas in sunny Singapore is truly a Uniquely Singapore experience. From 12 November 2005 - 2 January 2006, head downtown for another unforgettable Christmas in the Tropics in celebration of the yuletide season!

Step into Singapore’s premier shopping street, Orchard Road, and bask in the fun-filled atmosphere as you shop for Christmas gifts and savour a tantalizing array of Christmas delicacies. Themed "Wonderland: A Musical Kaleidoscope", you will be enthralled by the glittering displays brought to life in swirls of colours and sounds. Visitors can also hop on the open-top HiPPO bus for a 30-minute spin and enjoy a panoramic view of Orchard Road. Over at Marina Bay, "Winterland: Dreaming of A White Christmas" is a haven of flickering and sparkling stars, night skies and children’s laughter that will guarantee you an enchanting experience. 

Besides the dazzling light-up, families, party-goers and revellers can expect an endless kaleidoscope of fun events and exciting entertainment from Christmas musicals, performances, concerts, countdown parties, street acts and even a singing Christmas “tree”!


 

World Cyber Games 2005 Grand Final
The World Cyber Games (WCG) 2005 Grand Final, the equivalent of the Olympics of computer gaming, takes place between 16 - 20 November at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

WCG 2005 Grand Final is the world’s largest computer and video game festival and is expected to attract about 800 players from 70 countries to Singapore. The players would be competing for cash prizes as well as title-holders to the 8 game titles played at the five-day tournament. On-site broadcasting with commentary will provide spectators with an experience akin to watching sports matches.

As host of the WCG 2005 Grand Final, Singapore hopes to position itself as the leading hub for the Asia Pacific gaming industry and promote the educational aspects of the games.


 

The Art of Star Wars Exhibition
Star Wars has descended in Singapore! Fans of this cinematic epic by George Lucas will be captivated by this highly-anticipated Art of Star Wars Exhibition taking place between 19 November 2005 to 3 April 2006 at the Singapore Science Centre.

The Singapore Science Centre is the first venue in Southeast Asia to host this blockbuster exhibition. Occupying close to 2,000 square metres, the exhibition boasts an astounding collection of more than 250 artifacts from the epic series.

Visitors can also look forward to interactive activities, merchandising and exclusive Star Wars collectibles, as well as the screening of "the making of" documentaries at the theatrette.
