Clipper Takes to the High Seas The Clipper 05-06 Round The World Yacht Race began its prestigious journey on the world’s longest run round-the-world course of 35,000 nautical miles from Albert Dock in Liverpool, United Kingdom on 18 September. “Uniquely Singapore”, a magnificent 68-feet, state-of-the-art racing yacht represents Singapore in this race together with nine other global cities. This is the first time that Singapore is a destination on the race route.
“Uniquely Singapore” is a befitting name for the yacht as it reflects the attributes of the country – a unique blend of East and West, of tradition and modernity, of nationalities, religions, cultures and personalities. Singapore is a hive of artistic and creative activities with a growing arts and sports scene. Singapore’s involvement in international competitions such as the Clipper 05-06 Round The World Yacht Race bears testimony to its ability to compete on the global arena.
Aboard the “Uniquely Singapore” is a crew of 21 adventurous Singaporeans from all walks of life, races and ages, both male and female. They will be Singapore’s roving tourism ambassadors, as they race and spread the ‘uniqueness’ of Singapore to the rest of the world.
In the course of sailing to pre-selected destinations such as Dubai, Brazil and P R China, the yachts will pass through Singapore and berth at local docks for 12 days in early 2006, where the sailing fraternity will be hosted to all things Uniquely Singapore at the festival village.
