Singapore is Top Asia Pacific Destination for Travellers from P R China in 2004 Singapore is the top Asia Pacific destination for travellers from P R China in 2004, up three spots from number four in 2000. The ranking, compiled by PATA, excludes Hong Kong and Macau, which are part of P R China’s Special Administrative Regions.
According to the PATA report, Singapore had recovered rapidly from the SARS crisis in 2003 and overtook Thailand and Vietnam as the top volume market after Hong Kong and Macau.
29 million outbound trips were made by Chinese travellers in 2004. This momentum is expected to continue, as PATA estimates that close to 32 million trips will be made for 2005 based on their travelling pattern in the first half of the year.
P R China is an important contributor to visitor arrivals to Singapore. With the immense potential presented by this fast-growing market, the STB will continue to brand Singapore as a destination of choice, and engage in-market trade partners to promote Singapore’s diverse array of tourism experiences.
