Transforming Singapore into "The World's Biggest Transit Lounge" On 1 October, the STB launched Phase Two of the Transit Programme to turn Singapore into “The World’s Biggest Transit Lounge” by heightening the experiences of more than five million air passengers who stop over in Singapore. A promotion was also introduced to allow Chinese and Indian nationals to transit in Singapore for up to 96 hours or four days without having to apply for a visa.
Singapore is an international aviation hub with 80 of the world’s airlines converging through 3,900 scheduled weekly flights to more than 180 cities in 56 countries. Beyond the world-class amenities in Changi Airport, transit passengers can now look forward to taking in the exciting sights and sounds of Singapore. They can choose to head to the heart of Singapore on a new free shuttle service from the airport to Suntec City, Little India and/or Parkway Parade with return transfer. Alternatively, they can explore the city-state on their own with complimentary Tourist Day Passes. Free City Tours with Chinese commentary have also been introduced for Chinese-speaking passengers, while Taxi Tourist Guides are available for hire for those who prefer personalised tours on taxis. Transit passengers are also entitled to a food and drink voucher or complimentary use of shower facilities within the airport to freshen up before their next connecting flight.
For a limited promotion period, P R Chinese and Indian nationals can transit in Singapore for up to 96 hours or four days without having to apply for a visa (conditions apply). Through generating awareness of this programme in P R China and India, the STB hopes to encourage visitors from these two key markets to stop over and enjoy a sampling of Singapore’s unique sights, thereby inspiring them to return to the city-state. |
