New members for Tourism Consultative Council

The STB welcomes three new distinguished industry members to the Tourism Consultative Council (TCC).

The Singapore Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) was invited to join the TCC in July 2005, in recognition of the importance of developing manpower capabilities and resources to support the long-term growth of the tourism sector which is expected to generate an additional 100,000 jobs by 2015. The STB warmly welcomes Mr Ong Ye Kung, Chief Executive of SWDA onboard the TCC.

Ms Carol Tan, Director of National Marketing, Ministry of Information, Communications & the Arts, and Mr Colin Neubronner, Senior Manager, Marketing Communications & Development, Singapore Airlines, have also joined the TCC as new representatives from their respective organisations.

The TCC was first formed on 1 February 2004 to facilitate the close collaboration between the public and private sectors. The TCC serves as a sounding board for the STB's key strategies and plans, as well as for issues and challenges confronting the industry. The Council provides ground intelligence and perspectives on industry trends, and assists in the joint implementation of tourism initiatives.

The TCC is co-chaired by the Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the STB, Lim Neo Chian and Executive Chairman of Shangri-La Hotel Ltd, Madam Kay Kuok; with Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports, and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, as honorary advisor. The Council comprises leaders of key travel-related industry associations and organisations, as well as representatives from key government agencies and selected individuals from the tourism industry.

The Council meets once every quarter and the next meeting is to be held on 6 October 2005.
