Singapore Flyer Ground Breaking
The ground breaking ceremony for the Singapore Flyer was held on 27 September. The Singapore Flyer is a giant observation located at Marina Bay and is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2008.

The Marina Bay area is envisaged to be the future downtown of Singapore, comprising of the business and financial centre, an Integrated Resort, waterfront gardens, the Marina Barrage and recreational and entertainment facilities along the promenade. The Singapore Flyer will occupy a prime spot in this "necklace of attractions" and provide a breathtaking, unobstructed radial view of 45 km spanning three countries - Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.

The Singapore Flyer is expected to attract 2.5 million visitors in the first year with more than half of them from overseas. This will contribute to the STB's Tourism 2015 targets of tripling tourism receipts to S$30 billion, doubling visitor arrivals to 17 million, and creating an additional 100,000 jobs in the services sector by 2015. Tourism developments such as the Singapore Flyer and the two planned integrated resorts are expected to generate beneficial investment spin-offs for Singapore.

Construction of this giant observation wheel will begin soon. When completed, the Singapore Flyer will offer an array of public facilities including a central atrium with a re-created Asian rainforest, outdoor amphitheatre, alfresco dining promenade running along the seafront, and high accessibility by train, bus, car and even boat.
