Three new categories for Tourism Awards

Tourism Awards 2006 will have three new categories – Top 10 Best Family Experiences, Best Tourism Host-Nightspots and the Uniquely Singapore award.

Aimed at encouraging the industry to innovate and create unique experiences and distinctive service elements, the new awards are also in line with Tourism 2015’s plans to achieve S$30 billion in tourism receipts and 17 million in visitor arrivals.

'The industry’s support is pivotal to the realisation of the Tourism 2015 vision. The new awards recognise tourism players who contributed significantly to some of the key priority areas in our Tourism 2015 plans,' said Dr Chan Tat Hon, Assistant Chief Executive (Leisure), Singapore Tourism Board (STB).

In its 21st year, the Tourism Awards will see 28 categories – 22 of which will be open for public nominations. The nomination period will run from 3 August to 30 September 2006.

Based on the nominations, a panel of judges comprising representatives from the STB and other public and private-sector organisations, will select the finalists and the eventual award winners.

Top 10 Best Family Experiences
This award aims to recognise and encourage industry players to continue to innovate and create Uniquely Singapore experiences for families travelling to Singapore. Winners will be highlighted in the STB’s local and overseas marketing efforts.

Best Tourism Host – Nightspots
Growth in the entertainment and lifestyle sector has included a healthy increase in quality nightspots. The introduction of this award is timely and aims to encourage an emphasis on service quality even as growth in the sector continues.

The Uniquely Singapore Award
This award was introduced to recognise the significant efforts and achievements made by tourism players in bringing alive the Uniquely Singapore branding. It will honour individuals, organisations, events or projects which best encapsulate the essence, personality and inspiration behind the Uniquely Singapore brand.

How to nominate
• Nominate via Short Message Service (SMS) to 73300 and stand to win lucky draw prizes worth up to S$1,000. Each SMS is charged at $0.20.

• Submit nominations online.

• Call the Singapore toll-free hotline, 1800-4AWARDS or 1800-4-292737, to nominate.

• Fill out a nomination form available at the STB's overseas offices and locations island-wide in Singapore including restaurants, hotels, attractions, shopping centres, retail outlets, nightspots and all Singapore Visitors Centres.
