Fireworks light up Unique2Me photo contest

Wong Chek Poh's ‘City Skyline Fireworks’ beat thousands of digital photograph entries to win top prize in the Singapore Tourism Board’s Unique2Me national photo contest launched in November 2005.

Chew Kee Seng’s ‘Labrador Park Beach’ and Razin Abdul Rahman’s ‘Red & White Staircase’ bagged second and third prize respectively in the Digital Photograph category.

In the MMS Photograph category, the winner was Eryn Yee Lai Ying, followed by second-placed Liew Kang Wee and Chloe Loke Wai San in third place.

The winners were announced on July 18 at the opening of the Unique2Me exhibition at the Entertainment Centre Atrium, Suntec City.

The photo contest, organised to draw out the unique personal experiences of visitors and locals, attracted some 4,000 entries from 24 countries to both categories.

Themes ranged from Singapore’s famous Dragon Boat races, parks and gardens, transportation system to the popular local game – ‘mahjong’.

Shortlisted photographs were hosted on VisitSingapore.com for public viewing and voting in March 2006. An expert panel of judges including celebrity photographer Ian Lloyd selected the top three winning photographs in each category.

The three winners in the Digital Photography category will have their photographs printed on ezLink cards. The STB partnered with National Geographic Channel, ezLink, Sony, Sony Ericsson, Singtel, Clear Channel, Yahoo and Suntec in order to reach out to global consumers for this contest.

Prizes included cash, Sony Digital cameras and Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
