Uniquely Singapore Clipper sails beyond expectations
She's gone 63,000 kilometres in 10 months in the Clipper Round-the-World Yacht Race and done Singapore proud. Uniquely Singapore Clipper, the yacht carrying her Singapore team, and Singapore's brand, around the world, berthed at Liverpool on Saturday, July 29, in fifth position.
'All the people on board have become amazing tourism ambassadors, spreading the word about who we are, what we are like, and they just performed the role of ambassadors really well. We know the board decked out in Singapore colours and the brand Uniquely Singapore brought out our brand throughout the world,' said Mr Ken Low, the Singapore Tourism Board's Assistant Chief Executive of Brand and Communications.
The STB is now considering sponsoring the next clipper race and other similar projects which would showcase Singapore to the world.
'Projects like these offer a wonderful platform for ordinary Singaporeans to go beyond their comfort zone and certainly we are looking at future projects with a great deal of interest. And I believe a few of our partners have expressed interest to continue such projects,' said Mr Low.
Keppel, PSA, Sentosa Cove and Team Singapore also sponsored the race which took the crew from Liverpool in the United Kingdom via countries as far-flung as Canada, Panama, New York and China.
The three top-ranked boats were Western Australia Clipper, Durban Clipper and New York Clipper.
