‘Twas a Starry, Starry Night

Some of the top Chinese pop performers from China and Singapore came together to perform at the Padang on July 16 on a ‘Starry Starry Night 2006’ (第三届中新歌会 - 非常新加坡 燃情之夜).

Held for the third time, this concert was jointly organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and China’s CCTV.

Mr Edmund Chua, STB’s Regional Director of Greater China, shown left, said: ‘This event serves as a platform for our home grown artistes and Asia’s performers in the Chinese pop entertainment (arena) to collaborate across borders and showcase their talents.

‘We hope that STB’s sponsorship of this event will also further help to strengthen the friendship and understanding between Singapore and China, as well as promote tourism and cultural exchanges and knowledge between the people of both countries.’

Boasting a stellar line-up of home-grown artistes such as Tanya Chua (蔡健雅), STB’s past and present tourism ambassadors to Greater China – Ah-Do (阿杜) and JJ Lin (林俊杰), and top China stars such as Sun Yue (孙悦), and Chen Hao (陈好), the concert also featured celebrities from Taiwan and Hong Kong including Alec Su (苏有朋) and Joey Yeung (容祖儿), as well as MediaCorp artistes such as Fann Wong (范文芳), Christopher Lee (李名顺) and Tay Ping Hui (郑斌辉).

China was Singapore’s second visitor-generating country with some 860,000 visitor arrivals in 2005. There were about 700,000 visitor arrivals from Singapore to China within the same period.
