Indonesian students offered scholarships under new scheme

Financially disadvantaged Indonesian students will now get a chance to study in top Singapore universities following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Sampoerna Foundation.

The two bodies have jointly launched two Masters of Business Administration (MBA) scholarships for outstanding Indonesian students to pursue full time study programmes at top MBA universities in Singapore.

“The reason why we choose Singapore as one of our partners for the MBA scholarship program is that the country has proven to offer world-class education. In addition, Singapore is recognised as a global business centre which makes it an ideal location to groom Indonesia’s future economic leaders.

“Besides studying, they can also build networks, which will be very useful when they enter the corporate world,” said Mr Merdy, Chief Operating Officer of Sampoerna Foundation.
Singapore is currently home to more than 7,000 multinational corporations, many of which are established regional headquarters. Active collaboration between these multinational corporations and top Singapore universities allows students a direct insight into the corporate world.

“We are happy that Singapore has been chosen by Sampoerna Foundation for its prestigious MBA scholarship program. I am sure the scholarship recipients will find the learning experience in Singapore both enriching and fulfilling. These students will in time return to Indonesia and contribute to the society.

“Singapore is pleased to be able to play a part in nurturing them. This is another positive step in fostering greater ties between the future leaders of Singapore and Indonesia,” said Ms Magdalene Lee, Director of Education Services Division, Singapore Tourism Board.

The Sampoerna Foundation MBA scholarship programme will allow eligible students entry into two local universities, National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), both of which are ranked amongst the top 50 in the World University Rankings.
