Celebrity designer to create new show at Sentosa, Palawan beach revamped
It’s all happening at Sentosa these days. This week the island announced a brand new nightly sound, light and water show and unveiled its brand new Palawan beach after a S$20 million revamp.
The new water show will be created by world-renowned and internationally acclaimed Yves Pepin, Founder and President of ECA2, a company recognised the world over as one of the most experienced international teams for conception, creation and production of multimedia shows.
Yves, along with famous film directors Steven Spielberg and Zhang Yimou, and Ric Birch, the producer of the Sydney 2000 Ceremonies, were recently appointed Artistic Advisers in the creative team for the Ceremonies of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Earlier, in March 2006, Yves was also conferred the THEA Lifetime Achievement Award 2006 at the Themed Entertainment Awards considered the Oscars of the Entertainment industry, in recognition of his life works.
“We are proud to collaborate with Yves again,” said Darrell Metzger, Chief Executive Officer of Sentosa, “And we are sure that his creative genius will help us present a world-class nightly attraction to our guests from Singapore as well as overseas. It will be the only such attraction in this region which operates in the sea waters for spectators to watch from the sea shore.”
Sentosa will invest S$31 million to develop the new attraction at Siloso Beach, which will boast dramatic effects and high-tech lasers. Work on the new nightly attraction, located at Siloso just by the forthcoming Sentosa Express Beach Station, begun earlier this year and the attraction is scheduled to be complete by the second quarter of 2007.
The seating capacity of the open-air amphitheatre will be 3,000. Once operational, the attraction is slated to have two shows every night.
“This new night attraction is part of our strategic steps in enhancing the Sentosa-HarbourFront destination,” said Gurjit Singh, Director of Property, Sentosa, adding, “The new attraction will definitely provide an attractive lure for guests hopping on board the Sentosa Express from VivoCity.”
Meanwhile, Palawan, tagged “Singapore’s happiest family beach”, offers a brand new experience with highlights including free animal & bird encounters at the 300-seater Palawan Amphitheatre; a 350-seater Koufu food court (with air-conditioned as well as alfresco dining); Samundar - an authentic Indian restaurant with air-conditioned and alfresco dining as well as two beach bars – Bora Bora and Club Islander.
“The Palawan Beach revamp has brought enough elements together to keep families entertained and happy, and hopefully, on the island for a longer time,” Said Darrell Metzger. “To make guests’ experience memorable on Sentosa beaches, we don’t only ensure smooth operations of all facilities and amenities but also give attention to little details like combing of the sand, plucking ripe coconuts off the trees, and maintaining the landscape.”
With this makeover, Palawan Beach offers yet another attractive leisure destination to wind-down with the family or friends. |
