The future of Singapore’s tourism landscape is exhilarating. To think that by 2009, we will have our very first Integrated Resort (IR) operating in the heart of the city.
We are excited to partner with Sands and hope that their expertise and excellent track record in the MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions) market will further enhance Singapore’s MICE capabilities and offerings.
The launch of the Request For Proposal for the IR on Sentosa marks the next phase of our plans to enhance Singapore’s reputation as a “must-visit” destination for leisure and business visitors, and sharpen Singapore’s competitiveness.

Looking forward, we will continue to cultivate more exciting projects and events to spur new tourism investments. So do keep a look out for our announcements.
Speaking about events, don’t miss out on the Great Singapore Sale (26 May – 23 July 2006). This year’s sale packs great bargains and even greater action – more late night shopping (over five weekends) and a bigger and better “Great Singapore Shopping Challenge”. “Late Night Shopping” is proving to be such a hit that retailers are now considering the possibility of having it as a year-round affair.
Did you know that tourism shopping currently accounts for about 50% of total tourism receipts? That’s why it is important that we continue to work hard to keep Singapore’s competitive edge in shopping and give visitors plenty of reasons to drop by for shopping.
I am also proud to share that our “Uniquely Singapore” Clipper won its first race last month. This is a very proud moment for Singapore as we celebrate the fantastic victory of our Uniquely Singapore crew! As they continue on their voyage across the world, our clipper and our tourism ambassadors onboard will continue to bring great visibility to our destination brand.
Finally, our annual signature entertainment event – the Singapore Arts Festival has just opened (Jun 1 – 25). This year marks the 20th year since the event was first launched and offers a feast of dance, performances, plays and music from around the world.
We hope you will enjoy reading this issue and do keep your feedback and suggestions coming!
Sincerely, Ken Low Assistant Chief Executive Brand & Communications | | |

Sands wins the IR race It went in alone. It promised 110,000 sqm of convention space. It boasted six celebrity chefs on its star-studded cast. It touted an ArtScience Museum and two performing theatres. It has a garden in the sky – a Sky Park sitting atop three hotel towers. Its design showed three slanting towers overlooking three low-rise dome-like structures.
