Your Tourism Update from the Singapore Tourism Board

September 2005

Organisation Structure

With the unveiling of the Tourism 2015 Roadmap, the STB has made several refinements to its organisation structure to enable it to be more customer-oriented in its approach to tourism development. The overall aim is to enable the tourism industry here to achieve leadership position in key customer segments and, ultimately, achieve the tourism targets set for 2015.

Integrated Resorts Division
With the approval given by the Singapore government to develop the Integrated Resorts (IRs) in April this year, a new unit, the Integrated Resorts Division, has been formed within the STB. The division, headed by Ms Margaret Teo, is responsible for the successful development of the Integrated Resorts. The division's scope of work includes finalising and evaluating submissions to the Request for Proposals, resolving regulatory or policy issues and supporting the marketing of the IRs and industry collaboration.

Leisure Group
With effect from 12 August 2005, changes were made to the Leisure Group to enhance its focus on the Tourism 2015 deliverables. Through this, the Leisure Group will be better able to drive development of leisure product clusters, development of new products, management of events as well as leisure branding and marketing. These changes were made keeping in mind the need to avoid or minimise disruption to existing projects and interfaces with the industry and other partners.

The Leisure Group will comprise the following divisions:

arrow Sightseeing & Cruise Clusters Development
arrow Events & Entertainment Clusters Development
arrow Tourism Shopping & Dining Clusters Development
  arrow Service Quality
arrow Leisure Marketing and Events Management
arrow Leisure Planning

The Cluster Development Divisions will be responsible for driving cluster and industry development in the respective areas. They will build deep knowledge and strong networks within the respective key tourism product clusters. The previous Tourism Shopping Division and the Food & Beverage Division have now been combined to form Tourism Shopping and Dining Clusters Development Division. Assistant Chief Executive (Leisure) Dr Chan Tat Hon leads this division directly. Mr Chang Chee Pey and Mr Oliver Chong continue to lead the Sightseeing & Cruise Clusters Development Division and the Events & Entertainment Clusters Development Division respectively.

The Service Quality Division is now part of Leisure Group and Ms Sulian Tan-Wijaya now takes on a new portfolio as Director, Service Quality. This division aims to improve the service standards of tourism-related sectors and to ensure effective delivery of destination information to all visitors. The Board will partner the industry to use service quality as an experience differentiator and competitive advantage for Singapore.

The Leisure Marketing and Events Management Division now works with the product cluster teams to implement and grow key events. They are also responsible for implementing pre- and post-arrival marketing initiatives and projects. Ms Joycelyn Ng is the Deputy Director for this division.

The Leisure Planning Division is responsible for driving the development and integration of Leisure Group's strategies and plans. Together with the respective Cluster Development divisions, this division also ensures the realisation of new product development and investment promotion deliverables of the Leisure Group. Mr Kok Ping Soon is the Director of this division, concurrent to his existing appointment as Director, Sector Planning.
