As you know, in Singapore, we love to eat. And if we are not eating, we are talking about it.
I hope you had a chance to sample some of the cutting edge and mouth-watering cuisines that were prepared by the ensemble of world-class chefs who gathered in this year's World Gourmet Summit to show off their talents.
This event has grown from strength to strength each year and this year’s event was exceptional in both its diversity and quality.
We would also like to congratulate the winners of the World Gourmet Summit Awards of Excellence – the talents that make Singapore shine as a premium dining and lifestyle destination for the discerning visitor. |
|
Signature events like the World Gourmet Summit would not be possible without the support of our industry partners like Peter Knipp Holdings and the departments within STB such as the Leisure Marketing & Events Management division.
In this issue, Deputy Director Ms Joycelyn Ng shares her division’s roles and responsibilities as it supports Singapore’s drive to create “unique, personal experiences” for its visitors – be they transit visitors or individual travellers.
Unique, personal experiences that are ‘Beyond Words’ – that’s the promise of Phase 2 of the Uniquely Singapore brand campaign.
And we are working away at supporting this promise. For example, we’ve just launched “Inside Scoop”, a new section on visitsingapore.com which gives insights into things uniquely Singaporean so that visitors have a richer understanding of what makes us tick, our little idiosyncrasies and what's hot and new in the city.
We want visitors to make an emotional connection with us as a people and Singapore as a destination, hence it is important we share our stories with them.
Another story we share with you in this issue is the rise of hotelier Loh Lik Peng, the brainchild behind the New Majestic Hotel. It opened just a couple of months ago and already, it’s won its first international accolade and has got people talking about its creativity and individuality.
These are the stories that make Singapore unique.
We also share with you news of an upcoming event, Singapore 2006, which will culminate with the IMF-World Bank Board Of Governors Annual Meetings.
This will be one of the largest international events we’ve ever hosted, so be sure to seize the day for this gathering.
Make it your story.
We hope you will enjoy reading this issue and do keep your feedback and suggestions coming!
Sincerely, Ken Low Assistant Chief Executive Brand & Communications | | |
