SPECIAL RECOGNITION AWARD Hitachi Group of Companies Hitachi Asia’s support of the Christmas Light-Up, from 1991 to 2005, has enabled the Light-Up to become a key iconic and anchor event in Singapore Tourism Board’s year-end marketing campaign Christmas in the Tropics.
The Christmas Light-Up has proven to be a major factor in influencing regional visitors to visit Singapore during the year-end period. In November and December 2004, close to 1.6 million visitors came to Singapore, registering a double digit growth of 17% compared to the same period in 2003. A survey conducted in 2004 found that 38% of visitors actually planned their trip to coincide with the celebrations, with 24% of them repeat visitors to the Light-Up.
"We are delighted to lend a hand to those in need through the Christmas Light-Up. Since 1991, Hitachi has raised funds to support 146 social service programs to help children, the elderly, families and people with disabilities. So this award is to be shared by all - not only those in Hitachi, but also STB, ComChest and its beneficiaries, who have been involved in the Christmas Light-Up for the past 15 years.
