Deluge of entries to Unique2Me Photo Competition
The STB received over 4,000 entries from budding photographers from more than 24 countries, for its first Unique2Me national photo competition.

The entries were for both the Digital Photograph and the MMS Photograph categories. Submissions to the photo contest were open from 15 November 2005 to 15 January 2006.

Over 90% of the submissions were received from photo enthusiasts residing in Singapore while the remaining 10% were sent in from around the world including Vietnam, Australia, France, Philippines, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, India, Canada, Japan, United States, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Bahrain, PR China, Belgium, Afghanistan, Hungary, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Austria, Thailand, Denmark and Scotland.

Participants, most of whom were aged between 15 and 37 years – the youngest was 14 –  explored a wide variety of themes and subjects including Singapore’s famous Dragon boat races, reservoirs, transportation system and the popular local game – mahjong.

A selection of these entries can now be viewed on visitsingapore.com/unique2me.

Said Mr Bill Ang, STB's Director of Brand Management, “The overwhelming response received by the first Unique2Me national photo contest has exceeded our expectations, both in terms of the number and quality of submissions received. The contest submissions also exemplify the fact that across age groups, cultures and countries, each individual has his own unique experience about Singapore.”

Shortlisted entries of the contest submissions will be uploaded on the contest website for online voting by the public, from 1-31 March. Voters will be entered into a lucky draw and 10 lucky voters will stand to win cash prizes as well as Sony digital cameras and Sony Ericsson mobile phones. Nominations that attract the most votes will go through a final round before the top three images of each category are selected by a panel of judges. Results will be announced at an exhibition of the winning entries at Suntec City in May 2006.

The three winners of each of the two categories stand to win attractive prizes totaling $33,500, including cash prizes of S$5,000 and S$10,000 as well as state-of-the-art Sony digital cameras and Sony Ericsson mobile phones.
