One step closer to Entertainment Capital In line with Singapore’s goal of becoming the entertainment capital of Asia, the STB has signed a four-year alliance with MTV Networks Asia which will see signature MTV and Nickelodeon events being staged in Singapore between 2006 and 2009. Singapore’s entertainment industry is expected to benefit from the Alliance, which should inject an estimated S$50 million of business spending into the economy over the next four years.
3,400 seasonal jobs could be created and an additional 150,000 foreign visitors are expected to descend on Singapore, generating nearly S$100 million in tourism receipts over the event periods. The two-way arrangement features a wide array of activities that focus on fun and everything hip and entertaining: Key MTV shows and events that appeal to young professionals, youth and the young-at-heart, as well as sister-channel Nickelodeon’s programmes and festivals targeted at children and families. MTV awards shows such as the inaugural MTV Asia Movie Awards and the MTV Asia Awards 2007 will enhance Singapore’s annual calendar of events, showcasing the city as a hub for music, entertainment and pop culture, while Nickelodeon events aim to further profile Singapore as the leading Asian family destination. Bill Roedy, President, MTV Networks International, said: "Singapore is a vibrant and important hub for Asian business and entertainment, making it the ideal home for MTV Networks' Asia-Pacific operations for the past 11 years. Our latest initiative with the Singapore Tourism Board reflects our contribution to the diversity and spirit of Singapore, as it becomes an even bigger centre of cultural influence recognized all over the world." “This Alliance between MTV Networks Asia and the Singapore Tourism Board marks a milestone partnership for us, leveraging on our influence and bond with the next generation to promote tourism into Singapore," commented Nigel Robbins, President of MTV Networks Asia-Pacific.
Mr Lim Neo Chian, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive, STB, said, “This is a landmark development for Singapore’s entertainment scene. We are certain that visitors as well as local residents alike will be very thrilled with this extensive menu of world-class events. The entertainment cluster is one of the pillars that will propel Singapore to reach its tourism targets of doubling visitor arrivals to 17 million and tripling tourism receipts to S$30 billion by 2015. STB’s strategic alliance with one of the world’s top media companies and leading entertainment brands will surely boost efforts toward establishing the city as the Entertainment Capital of Asia.” |
