Career 2006 grows in size and scope CAREER 2006, which takes place in Singapore this month, will offer more than 10,000 job opportunities and over 50,000 education course placements, making it the biggest education and career event in Singapore and the region.
Scheduled to take place from 2 to 5 March 2006 at Suntec Singapore, CAREER 2006 will house over 550 exhibitors from 20 countries/areas.
Mr Colin Koh, Chairman of Singapore Professional Centre, organiser of the CAREER series says, “The main objective of the CAREER series is to provide a physical platform for students, job seekers and exhibitors to interact face-to-face.”
Added Ms Dilys Yong Mee Hiong, Group President of HQ Link Pte Ltd, the professional exhibition organiser for CAREER series, “In view of the ever-changing education and employment landscape, the CAREER show evolves every year to keep up with these changes in providing relevant education courses and job opportunities to the student population and working adults.”
China returns to the event with a bigger Pavilion, showcasing 34 renowned universities on the mainland.
Also returning for its second staging, the European Pavilion has expanded to include representation from 8 European countries, namely Belgium, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Poland, Sweden and Switzerland.
Local universities such as National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and SIM University as well as the University of New South Wales (Singapore campus) will also be at the show.
In addition, prominent education institutions such as Asia Pacific Management Institute, Hartford Institute of Management, Informatics Group, Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Marketing Institute of Singapore (MIS), SMa School of Management, TMC Education Group and Stansfield College will be present.
A special pavilion has been set up to address the need of providing jobs for older workers. CareerLink through National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) will be present at the Matured Workers Pavilion to offer a wide variety of job opportunities. This pavilion will focus on the recruitment and upgrading of skills for the matured workers.
STB and SPRING take part in Career 2006 In tandem with the expected boom in the tourism and hospitality industry, the STB and SPRING Singapore will jointly present the “Exciting Opportunities in Leisure Tourism, MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions), Retail and Food & Beverage” Pavilion at CAREER 2006.
According to Mr James Tan, STB's Director of Resource Development, “To achieve S$30 billion tourism receipts and 17 million visitor arrivals and create an additional 100,000 jobs by 2015, there is a need to build a competent and able tourism workforce, and attract people with the right skills and attitude.”
Ms Choy Sauw Kook, Director, Enterprise Competencies and Resources Division of SPRING Singapore added, "SPRING Singapore is participating in this event for the first time with STB and WDA. Though our focus is on enterprise development, we view manpower as a critical success factor for enabling enterprise growth. As the lead agency championing the development of the retail and F&B sectors, we are looking forward to showcasing the exciting and diverse career opportunities available in retail and F&B sectors."
Overall, the pavilion presented by the STB and SPRING, and supported by Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA), will showcase career, educational and training opportunities in retail, F&B and across tourism-related sectors such as the Hotel, Travel, MICE, Attractions and Spa industry.
