Tourism Industry Night 2006 - UNIQUE DREAM Singapore’s Tourism Industry Night 2006 was held at Ministry of Sound, one of the latest nightspots in downtown Clarke Quay on 26 January. This event is held annually in appreciation of the contribution and support of the trade partners and the media over the past year. About 500 guests from the private and public sectors attended this year’s event.
The Guest-of-Honour for the evening was Minister for Trade & Industry, Mr Lim Hng Kiang. Also gracing the event were Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minister for Trade and Industry, Dr. Vivian Balakrishnan, as well as Minister of State for Education and Trade and Industry, Mr Chan Soo Sen.
Themed Unique Dream, the event reflected the vision of transforming Singapore into a premier, must-visit destination that would enable the sector to achieve the 2015 targets of S$30 billion in tourism receipts and 17 million visitor arrivals. Minister Lim also announced that Singapore would aim to attract 9.4 million in visitor arrivals and achieve S$12 billion in tourism receipts in 2006.
The event was held in a Uniquely Singapore fashion with guests tossing “yu sheng” (a traditional Chinese dish consisting of salad and raw fish) to usher in fortune and prosperity for the Lunar New Year. Apart from a tantalising menu of international and local cuisine, guests were also treated to sneak previews of the ethnic performances at Chingay and Singapore River Hong Bao, two of the festive events happening around the corner.
